I have been going to the same Pilates studio for a couple of years now, a couple times each week, and the girls always ask me where I am going when I leave for class. This month the studio had a community appreciation day and they had a free kids pilates class one Saturday. I jumped at the chance to take both girls and they both had a blast; I am hoping the studio will start offering a class over the weekend so I can sign both girls up!
That same night Mila had her monthly sleepover with Kira...
For Valentine's Day this year both girls picked out their own valentines and then decorated their valentines box to collect valentines from their friends at school. Side note: valentines aren't what they used to be anymore...they aren't just one little card with a silly rhyme, they are fully involved turning into princess crowns and temporary tattoos for all your friends. I'm pretty sure I spent more time on them than the girls did!
However, they had so much fun and loved their parties at school, which is what it's all about, right?
That afternoon was another hip hop class for Mila; as you can see in the video below, she is not to be messed with in this class! She's definitely a leader and loves to use all that sass.
For President's Day weekend we rented a cabin in Big Bear with the Charland family. It was so much fun and they girls HAD A BLAST spending three nights with their best friends. While we were able to do a couple of activities it was crazy how everything was so busy. It's such a little town and over a holiday weekend it's inundated with tourists; for example, we tried to go bowling one day and there was a two hour wait!
We were able to squeeze in some rides on the alpine slides and the girls had so much fun racing down the hill against each other.
We spent a lot of time at the cabin, just playing games, watching movies and making meals. The girls loved being able to spend so much time together. When we had to leave Nellie asked whose house we were going to next and "if we could all go together to Kayleigh's house and live together forever."
It snowed the night before we were supposed to leave so we all woke up to a light dusting of snow. The girls were beside themselves and immediately went outside for a snowball fight and tried to build a snowman.
The day after got back from Big Bear Robert had to travel to Hawaii (Waikiki, on Oahu) for work so I decided to tag along (rough, right?). Neither of us had been before and we were both so excited to go. Robert flew out on Tuesday with some work people and I flew out on Wednesday afternoon.
Robert was already out with his friends when I arrived so I headed to the hotel to drop my stuff and then went out exploring and to grab some dinner. I was so surprised by how much of a city Waikiki was; you had to wait with a large group of people (like NYC!) to cross the street, there were SO many people and skyscrapers and street performers everywhere. There were also lots of restaurants and shopping (including high end like Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc) but it was so crazy the beach was just a block away and it was super islandy.
The next morning we went to breakfast together and did some walking around and shopping before Robert had to head to work.
I was in awe of how much Hawaii as a whole felt like a different country, both in its look and environment but also all of the different cultures and people. There were so many different languages spoken and so many different ethnicities of people; everyone was SO nice too.
When Robert left for work I just worked out and ate lunch at the hotel and went exploring and shopping some more, then we went and had some drinks with his friends and then went to dinner after.
All I wanted was a lei! Thanks Robert <3
Although it was overcast and once or twice rainy while we were there, the sunsets and the ocean water was unbelievable.
Work for Robert ended on Thursday so Friday morning we got up and set out to hike Diamond Head. We ended up walking from our hotel all the way to the mountain, up the mountain and back down, totaling 10 miles, which was insane but it was so beautiful I don't think we noticed how far we had gone!
We started at the bottom, near that white building sort of at the 3 o'clock mark and hiked all the way to the top.
Saturday we went down to the beach to watch the KU game and then laid out and took a nap in the sun. Ahhh vacation.
We went to dinner that night and just enjoyed being together. It's crazy but we haven't been on a vacation alone since our babymoon with Mila in 2012 and before that was our honeymoon in Cabo!
We were sad to leave on Sunday but we were anxious to get home to see the girls. We definitely can't wait to go back to Hawaii, there was so much we didn't see on Oahu, and to explore the other islands. It will be super fun to bring the girls too, once they get a little older and can handle the flights there (6 hours) and back (5 hours). However, they had a great time with Nana and Papa and Grandma and Grandpa while we were gone, though!
We got back just in time for Spirit Week at preschool and one last dinner with Nana and Papa before they headed back to Kansas.
What we're excited about next month: March Madness! Plus Easter parties and egg hunts at school and getting ready for our first camping trip of the year!
