We started off the month with Greg and Marcy's wedding down in San Juan Capistrano; it was such a nice evening and a fun little night out for the two of us. The girls spent the evening with the Charlands; we dropped them off on the way down and picked them up on the way home. It worked out perfectly.
The next night the girls had their monthly sleepover at Kira and Siena's so we had another date night. We just went down to Pacific City and tried out some new places.
Mila had her first skate night at school and she had a blast. She's never roller skated before and looked like a baby giraffe first learning how to walk but she really started getting the hang of it, right when it was time to leave. I had no idea we had a skating rink so close to our house, we will definitely be spending some more time there in the future!
She had a note sent home from school one Friday that said she would be getting an award at the next school assembly. It was for being responsible and she was asked to come up in front of the school to be acknowledged. Both Robert and I were able to be there to see her get it, she was so proud.
Soccer is winding down for us, just a couple more games and we're done for the season. Mila has been a trooper finishing up and being a good sport. She's really focused on basketball now and seems to have way more fun, and participates more eagerly, there than at soccer.
Nellie had her first big field trip at school, to Tanaka Farms, and celebrated her teacher's birthday with mermaid cupcakes.
She finished up her session of gymnastics and really stuck with it. It wasn't a very good class for actually learning gymnastics but I was more so interested in if Nellie would stick with it, which she did. I told her once it was done, if she was still interested, I would sign her up at our local, well known gymnastics program, SCATs; she will start that in November.
Both the girls had great conferences at school, and both have things that we need to work on, which gives us some direction; they're both eager learners and love homework. They're both loving school, their teachers and friends and look forward to going to school every day. I am looking forward to Nellie moving over to Hope View from Grace at the end of this school year because I'm having problems keeping the calendars and schedules correct! Nellie had four half days of conferences and a regular day on Friday...I thought Mila had the same and told them both to buy hot lunch on Friday. Well, turns out Mila had a half day Friday too and there was no hot lunch! She said the teacher gave her a banana and a protein bar but that she "wasn't very hungry so it's ok mom"! Then I went to pick Nellie up from school one day when I was off work early and I got there at 1:50pm and quickly realized that's when Mila's school ends and that Nellie isn't out until 2:45pm! Mom of the year over here!
The girls have been spending nearly every day with their friend, Leilani, who lives four houses down on our street. This melts my heart since I grew up with Andrea living right across the street and we are still such good friends today. Leilani also goes to Hope View and Robert and I get along great with her parents as well.
There's also another girl that lives across the street from us, Macy, and she ended up coming over one day too. It's a perfect little girl gang over here on our street. Macy and Leilani are both 5, turning 6 in the spring, so they are all very close in age.
For Halloween, Mila chose to be a police officer this year and Nellie chose She-Ra (not because she actually knows who she is, but because she liked the outfit). We went trick or treating with Leilani and her family and we came home with SO much candy, way more than years past. Both Mila and Nellie each had an entire gallon size ziplock bag full, plus we had another bag and a half for Robert to take to work and get rid of.
What we're looking forward to in November: camping at Ventura KOA, Robert's annual football trip (to Philadelphia this year) and Palmdale for Thanksgiving.
