I am happy to say that your dad and I have successfully got you on a schedule this past month!  Hooray! This makes all three of our lives much easier.  A friend of mine recommended the Baby Wise method, which essentially is a schedule that repeats itself every three hours.  First you feed, then you play and then you nap; the idea behind it is that you don't associate a bottle with going to sleep so you will sleep better at night and boy is it working!
 

Eating: you are still eating breaskmilk during the day and taking a bottle of formula at night.  You currently drink 3oz every feeding but you are getting hungrier sooner after each feeding so we've been trying to get you to take 4oz.  You currently eat at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm and 10:30pm. Most nights you will need at least one middle of the night feedings as well.

Bedtime: your bedtime is 8pm but somtimes we will put you to bed at 7:30pm if you are extra fussy.  You sleep for 2.5 hours and then I dreamfeed you (feed you while you are still sleeping...this actually works!) and put you pack to bed, that will give us 6+ hours of straight sleep.  Despite your napping issues, you are a breeze to put down at night.  You take your bottle, we sing some songs and you are out.

Awake: you seem to be staying awake more during the day and you're better at entertaining yourself with your Sassy Bug, activity mat, swing or other contraption.  You are starting to love nursery rhymes and we have listed to the same songs for the past couple of weeks...I know this is only the beginning :)

Naps: unfortunately you are not a very good napper.  It's rare that you will ever nap in the morning (8:15am and 11:15am) and, if you do, you want to be held and you will be in and out of sleep. You are better in the afternoon at 2:15pm and then you take two short catnaps at 5:15pm and 7:30pm.

Diapers: Size 1 Pampers Swaddlers

Clothes: clothes are weird.  You still fit in some of your newborn outfits but the 3mo clothes aren't that big on you either.  Right now you fit best in the 0-3mo clothes.  

Favorites: staring at your sassy bugs, laying on your activity mat staring at the lights and laying on our bed watching the fan is where you spend most of your time 

Development: you can hold your head up for very long periods of time and are constantly looking around at everything around you.  Your legs are holding a lot of your weight when you "jump" on our laps. Your eyes are so much more alert now and we can see you studying different objects. 

Dear Mila,

You have changed so much this past month!  You can now hold objects that we put in your hand for you, which your mom and dad think is the coolest thing ever. 

You have been smiling so much more this month and are now smiling in response to your mom and dad's voices and faces.  Daddy still loves calling you "pretty girl," and I am still partial to "baby doll."

Last weekend you went with mom and Auntie Court to see Twilight: Breaking Dawn at the movie theater. You were such a little pro and slept the entire time. You are now our little movie buddy.

For your dad's birthday I got him a gift certificate to brew his own beer at a local brewery. He had a great time and wouldn't tell me the name of the IPA he made until he brought it home.  I was hoping it was called "Two Girls and a Dog" but he did one better and named it "Celebration Ale" in honor of you!

 

You are such a spoiled little princess; I can't go shopping anywhere without buying you SOMETHING. You have way too many clothes and I can't stop buying; I might have a problem.  It's starting to get fun to buy you toys because you are actually interacting with them.  Your favorite toys practically since birth have been your Sassy Bugs and your dad found a giant, vibrating Sassy Bug when we were at Target last; it is your absolute favorite toy and you spend so much time just sitting, staring at it and smiling. 

You are now sleeping in the Rock 'N Play in our room and it is a GODSEND.  Since we bought it about three weeks ago you haven't slept less than eight hours every night, sometimes even going as long as 12 hours.  It's AMAZING.  The past couple of days I have got up for work, and Dad for coffee, left and you were still sleeping!  This week we are going to try to transition you to sleeping in your crib all night...we will see how it goes.

 

I went back to work two weeks ago, when you were six weeks old, and the transition has been sad for me because I want to be home with you but it's important to me that I work.  Your dad is adjusting just fine to taking care of you by himself three days a week and I think it makes for a better relationship for everyone.  I still can't get over how cute it is when he talks about you, sends me pictures of the outfits he dresses you in and tells me stories when I get home.  Just the other day I texted him and told him how much you hated tummy time and he texted back, "I know, babe, but she has to do it."  He's such a responsible parent already.

 

You've already had your two month check up and everything was great.  The doctor said that you were perfect (seems to be a recurring trend!) and you were such a trooper during your shots. 

 

Your future best friend and/or boyfriend, Johnny, was born this month and we can't wait to meet him in just a few short weeks. We already think you make the cutest couple:

 

 

 

You are growing like a little weed and at this point I don't know what size of clothes to buy you next! You seemed to be in your newborn clothes for so long and now you are just flying through you 0-3 month clothes!  We are even dressing you in 3 month clothes (no 0-) that seem a little big but I know you will be filling them up in no time, you little chunker.

 

You are holding your head up pretty much completely on your own now, sometimes it gets too heavy, though, and it falls.  We figured out that, if we stick our tongue out at you, you will stick it out back at us and this has lead to hours of entertainment for daddy and I. You are now cooing and making noises, other than crying; I can't wait to hear that little laugh and voice of yours. 

 

Speaking of, your cries have changed over the past month (or maybe mommy and daddy are better at interpreting them) and we can tell what, as your dad calls it, is a real cry and a fake cry.  My favorite cry that you make sounds like a little dove "cooing" and it absolutely breaks my heart and makes me want to smooch your little face at the same time.

 

You still love taking baths but we also started showering with you (yes showering!). It was too hard to give you a bath on Thurs/Fri/Sat when dad worked so I looked it up and saw that showers were safe as well.  You love when the water hits you and you just smile smile smile (one time you even fell asleep!) and you only cry when it's time to get out.

 

We celebrated Thanksgiving this week and your daddy and I, and really everyone that has met you or seen pictures of you, are so thankful to have you in our lives.  We really hit the jackpot with you, baby doll. 

 

 

 

Nana came in town for Thanksgiving too, which was great, for both me and you!

 

 

You have been pretty fussy this past week, we think you might have a little cold (or, according to Google, you are teething or have an ear infection...who knows at this point!).  Now that Thanksgiving is over, Christmas and the holiday season is here in full effect. We are in the middle of decorating the house and I bought you way too many Christmas outfits to wear all next month!

 

 

You are still the prettiest little thing and we love you very much. Happy birthday baby doll.

Week 7

This week we started to dress Mila in her 0-3 month clothes.  They are a little big on her but it's nice to have more options, I was getting sick of the newborn clothes (plus a lot of them are starting to get a lil tight); the same pieces have been in rotation for 6 weeks. She was all, Mom! Get me some new clothes! Good thing she had a closet full of them!  She also hit her 6 week growth spurt and spent a lot of time eating and sleeping.

Mila and I met Danielle, her son Matthew, Rocio and Jade at Ra Sushi on Thursday for a Hyatt girls happy hour.  It was nice to have a girls (+ 1 boy) happy hour and catch up.  Matthew was born 4 days before Mila so it was fun to compare notes.

My old roommate, Jenna (Auntie Ping), came over for a sleepover on Friday night to help take care of Mila, which was a nice lil break for me. There was lots of catching up and Mila snugs.



I have some nursery rhyme CDs that I put on for Mila this week that she absolutely loved.  She'll Be Comin Round the Mountain is her current favorite (Apples & Bananas is mine in case you were wondering).

Robert's parents came in town on Saturday and stayed until Monday since Robert's mom had it off for Veterans Day. That was a HUGE help to have them around because I got really important things done, like showering and grocery shopping (no corn dogs and coffee for breakfast this week for this girl!).  You have so much help at the beginning when the baby is new but then there aren't as many people in town anymore so it's nice when you have people come visit, especially when it's Grandma and Grandpa.

 The big news of this week is that Mila had her two month doctor appointment, which included the first of her shots (HepB, DTap, Hib, Polio, Rotavirus and Pneumococcal). Overall, she was a trooper! It was so sad, though, to watch her little face when they stuck her with the needle; her eyes got all big, her mouth turned into a frown and she started wailing. It didn't help that, before the first one, she was laying on the table all smiley, poor thing. She seems to be doing good now, though. She's been sleeping a lot since she had the shots; I gave her some Tylenol and lots of snugs (the schedule is out the window tonight!). One thing I thought was interesting was that the Rotovirus vaccine was an oral vaccination, not a shot. Mila is also busy growing as she is now 22in long (grew 2in) and weighs 11.7lbs (gained 2lbs).

This was our first time at the new pediatrican and I loved it.  Contrary to what I was told, they DO have a sick and well side, so that was a nice surprise.  The doctor we were going to see originally was out of the office sick so we saw a different one and really liked her so we will probably continue going to her. She introduced herself when she came in and told us a bit about herself and the practice and apologized for the wait as she was the only doctor in the office (2 were sent home sick today and 2 are on maternity leave!). They have urgent care on both Saturday and Sunday morning, they answer their own emergency/on call line (instead of sending it out to a call service) and they have a very impressive brochure (it's the little things that get Robert!).

Hooray!

Shawna had her baby last night!! Only a few hours past her due date, he arrived right on time. It was THE BEST news to wake up to for a 4am feeding!

I am getting all choked up right now you would think WE had another baby; I'm so happy for them!!!! I seriously can't wait for New Year's Eve so I can snuggle this lil bundle!

Please meet Johnny Fontana. Just a touch under 6 lbs and 19 inches long. Momma is happy and healthy.

Week 6

Mila is already a month and half old! How is that possible?!

I went back to work today, which was much harder than I thought it would be.  I knew it would be hard but I thought it would be okay because I was leaving Mila with Robert, but sadly, that did not make it any easier on me. I may or may not have even cried on the way to work and when I got to work (thank goodness Allison was there waiting with a hug!).  I am happy to say that, once things got rolling, work was good and it did feel good to be back (although the time draaaaaagged).  I do love my job, enjoy working and it's important to me to have a career; in addition, it's important to me that Mila see me work and know that she can do whatever she wants as well.  Robert, on the other hand, had a tough day.  He finally realizes why I was so exhausted the last two weeks when he got home from work and I had been watching Mila all day; it's not all pink clothes and baby kisses!  It didn't help either that Mila had an upset tummy today, cried for hours and didn't sleep. I think this is the first time in history Robert is actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow :)

I had my 6 week postpartum doctor's appointment today and everything looks great.  My lady parts checked out well, we discussed options for preventing near-future pregnancies and I passed the postpartum depression test with a score of 1 (the closer to 0 the better....score!)
