Daily Chuckle

Robert texted me this picture today of Mila. She got stuck when trying to crawl THROUGH the table next to his chair.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!  Unfortunately Robert had to work but I had two friends (Shantelle and Jessica) in town so we made sure to celebrate enough for him :)

Shantelle, Jessica, Mila and I celebrated America by hiking to the top of the Hollywood sign.

I'm not going to lie to you, it was 90 degrees, fairly steep and pretty rough with a 20lb baby in your backpack but, thanks to the motivation of these girls, we all made it to the top!

For those of you not familiar with Instagram, it's like Facebook, but only photos and, now, videos.  You can take a 15 second video but you can start/stop it at any time.  Here's the video that Shantelle made of our hike to the top, it's AMAZING and totally worth watching 546 times.

After we got back from Hollywood we showered and went over to a BBQ/pool party in Huntington Beach and headed home as the sun set.  We Mila was a party pooper so we didn't get to see any fireworks, but that's okay.  Hope you all had a happy 4th!

The Sweetest Sound

Crawling around with your sassy bug, you were saying "mamamamama!" I know you aren't REALLY saying that for me yet, but it's so sweet to hear.

9 Month Doctor Appointment

You had your 9 month check up today and now weight 19lbs, 4oz and are 27in long!  I talked to the doctor about your breathing and she said it sounds like you have a little cold but not much can be done for that so we just have to wait it out.

I have been a little sensitive to people always commenting how big you are so I wanted to make sure that we're not overfeeding you. The doctor said you're a little on the short side and you're at the top of the weight range so it makes you seem like a bigger baby.  She said to keep feeding you as we are and we will re-visit the weight issue at 15mo but that you will probably have thinned out by then.  I figure you can't be that big, though, because she said we should also start feeding you breakfast in the morning as well as your bottle so that when you stop the bottles you are used to eating three meals a day.  Mmmm, all kinds of breakfast yummies coming right up!

Daddy has been DYING for you to go to this appointment so we could ask the doctor about you going riding with him on his bike.  The doctor said your neck is strong and your old enough now that that shouldn't be a problem...next stop, Tour de France!

There were no shots this time, just a finger prick for a hemoglobin test to make sure you're not anemic (you're not).  You could've cared less about the finger prick, or the blood coming out, you were more fascinated with the red bandaid you got afterwards!

Overall, she said that you are doing really great!

Happy 9 Months!

Happy 9 months Mila!

9 Month Stats

Weight: 19lbs, 4oz
Length: 27in

Eating: you are a healthy eater!  there's not much you don't like; you have more of an issue with texture than taste I think. I am still making all your food and it's getting a little easier because you can now eat regular food cut into small pieces (cantaloupe, ravioli, etc.). You LOVE feeding yourself and blowing raspberries wile you're eating.

Bedtime: your bedtime is now between 730 and 8pm and you are still going down pretty easily for both of us. I think all the crawling during the day wears you out.

Awake: you are all over the place!  You crawl around the house looking for all kinds of things to get into. You're also pulling yourself up on anything and everything and have recently found the front door.  You and Roscoe spend a lot of time there, just looking out into the world.

Naps: As usual, you're an awesome napper for dad and pretty much everyone else.  But for Mom?  Not so much.

Diapers: we just opened up the size 3s this morning!

Clothes: it's such a fun time for clothes! I just got out all of your 9mo clothes and packed up everything else.  There's lots of rompers, perfect for sunshine, and all kinds of cute dresses and neon colors.  Bring on summer!

Favorites: your toys keep your attention in the morning, when they are still "new," but you would rather crawl around than sit still.  Roscoe's toys are your most favorite things right now and you love nearly getting them in your mouth (especially his elk bone!) before we gasp and take them away.

Development: I swear you are changing every day!  Since last month you have started pulling up, standing while holding on (and a couple times letting go completely!), started clapping, waving and dancing (which sometimes is just shaking your head "no"), and "talking" constantly.  You now have three teeth: two on the bottom and one on the top.

My little Mila,

You are doing all kinds of new things every day and you're so much fun to interact with.  You're making kissing noises (smacking your lips) and even go in for an open mouth kiss when I make the noises back at you. It's definitely messy but I wouldn't change it for the world.

You now make this little "huh huh huh" noise and all I can figure out is that it means your excited!  You do it whenever you see something that makes you squeal and also when I get out your bathing suit for swim lessons.  It's amazing that you know the swimsuit = swim lessons; you're such a smarty pants.

You caught your first cold this month and had the sniffles and a tiny little cough (that I sometimes suspected was fake!). I was hoping that you would make it to a year old without getting sick but making it 8.5 months isn't too shabby! Looks like you inherited your mom's immune system! Woohoo!

It's now evident that you LOVE music and you even start dancing whenever any tunes come on. I've only got it on video twice and neither one of them are very good (note: yes I will be trying out for American Idol next year and good luck ignoring Roscoe in the second video).

You're clapping and waving now and you're such a happy baby.  You're so curious and aware of everything around you.  Daddy has even taught you how to hug and you wrap your arms around him every morning when you wake up.

You no longer like laying back and lounging in the stroller, you sit straight up, near the tray, and want to see everything that's going on.

Sometimes it's a little too much though :)

We went to the zoo up in Big Bear (calling it a zoo is a stretch...it's really more of an animal sanctuary where I'm pretty sure they send all the animals to die) with Nana and Papa.

You were baptized this month and we also celebrated Father's Day with all your men; you saw Papa in the morning and then spent the day with daddy, Grandpa and Great Grandpops.

You and Roscoe are still best friends and I think you're both having more fun with each other. Roscoe is really good at pretending that he doesn't mind that you're taking over his toys (I finally gave in and just washed them all so you can put them in your mouth) AND his bed.  And we constantly find your bedroom door open in the evening as he has wandered in there to check on you.

I know I say it every month but this is my favorite age so far! We love you, snug bug!

Love,
Mommy
