Hooray!

Shawna had her baby last night!! Only a few hours past her due date, he arrived right on time. It was THE BEST news to wake up to for a 4am feeding!

I am getting all choked up right now you would think WE had another baby; I'm so happy for them!!!! I seriously can't wait for New Year's Eve so I can snuggle this lil bundle!

Please meet Johnny Fontana. Just a touch under 6 lbs and 19 inches long. Momma is happy and healthy.

Week 6

Mila is already a month and half old! How is that possible?!

I went back to work today, which was much harder than I thought it would be.  I knew it would be hard but I thought it would be okay because I was leaving Mila with Robert, but sadly, that did not make it any easier on me. I may or may not have even cried on the way to work and when I got to work (thank goodness Allison was there waiting with a hug!).  I am happy to say that, once things got rolling, work was good and it did feel good to be back (although the time draaaaaagged).  I do love my job, enjoy working and it's important to me to have a career; in addition, it's important to me that Mila see me work and know that she can do whatever she wants as well.  Robert, on the other hand, had a tough day.  He finally realizes why I was so exhausted the last two weeks when he got home from work and I had been watching Mila all day; it's not all pink clothes and baby kisses!  It didn't help either that Mila had an upset tummy today, cried for hours and didn't sleep. I think this is the first time in history Robert is actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow :)

I had my 6 week postpartum doctor's appointment today and everything looks great.  My lady parts checked out well, we discussed options for preventing near-future pregnancies and I passed the postpartum depression test with a score of 1 (the closer to 0 the better....score!)

my gramma fisher made this blanket for me and now Mila is using it <3

i found this cute newborn outfit hiding in a drawer...she almost didn't get to wear it!

P.S.

Roscoe says Happy Halloween too.

Week 5

Robert went back to work this week and I have a new appreciation for all the stay at home and single moms out there.  While I was super busy all day and barely had a second to myself, I coudn't tell you what I got accomplished (other than looking out for the most adorable girl in the world).

Mila decided this week that she was over naps. We couldn't get her to sleep for the life of us. I have been trying to break her of the habit of falling asleep while we are holding her and rocking her to sleep in hopes that she will be able to soothe herself back to sleep. Let me tell you, this is much easier said than done. In addition, she has been waking up at least three times every night, not really to feed, just to scream and be awake :) I finally gave in and decided to buy a Rock 'N Play after I saw that it amazing reviews and almost everyone said that their babies slept for 8-12 hours in it the first night.  Robert and I tried it last night and Mila slept for 7.5 hours in it! That's in addition to the 2 hours she slept in her crib before we went to bed and I moved her to out bed.  A full night's sleep was JUST what Robert and I needed, we're like brand new people! Now, before we get too excited, fingers crossed that it will work again tonight...and tomorrow night...and the next night...

 Here is a video of her waking up after a nap.  Don't forget you will have to go to the website to view it.

This morning Mila was laying on the couch between my legs and Roscoe got up on the couch next to me and leaned over and held Mila's hand! I didn't even make him do it, he did it on his own.  Best friends already <3

Happy 1 Month!

She is wearing the same onesie in both pictures!

Happy 1 month Mila!

1 Month Stats

Weight: 9 pounds, 6 ounces (71%) (as of your 3 week appointment)
Length: 20 inches (31%) (as of your 3 week appointment)

Eating: almost always at the 2-2.5 hour mark from the last feeding like clockwork. I am almost exclusively pumping now and feeding you 3oz of breastmilk each feeding during the day. We're trying you on 3-5oz of formula at night to tank you up before bed and then I will nurse you throughout the night and in the early morning hours if needed.

Bedtime: we're working on getting on a schedule so right now it's around 8pm.  On most nights you will sleep 4-6 hours at a time during the night, which is great.

Awake: at least once in the middle of the night, for 1/2 hour to an hour at a time and then waking for the day around 7am or 8am

Naps: there's not really a pattern for this right now. you just nap when you want to nap :)

Diapers: Newborn size Pampers Swaddlers

Clothes: Newborn size even though you're above the 8lb mark. You're a petite little thing, baby doll

Favorites: swinging in your snug-a-bunny swing, sleeping on any one's chest, watching the colors and lights on the cat part of your tummy time activity mat, taking baths

Development: you can hold your head up on your own for 5-10 seconds at a time; everyone says you are very strong for your age

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Mila,
Your 3 week checkup went well. The doctor said you were "perfect," which we all already knew. You are gaining lots of weight and are overall a happy baby. Your next appointment is your 2 month appointment and that's where you get your first shots.
Daddy and I went out on our first date without you on Wednesday night; it was nice to get out of the house and spend some time together but we were happy to come home to you too.
Your Aunt Sissy FINALLY arrived on Thursday so you got lots of snuggle time in with her.
We asked her and Uncle Bret to be your godparents and legal guardians if anything ever happens to mommy and daddy; they gladly accepted, even when they found out that Roscoe was also part of the deal.
It's hard to believe that you are already a month old! It just doesn't seem like it's been that long since you were born. You are such a snuggle bug and LOVE sleeping on people's chests.
We have started putting you in your crib for at least one nap during the day but you don't like to be in there by yourself.
You are sleeping in the pack & play bassinet in our room at night, this is mostly for mommy's peace of mind. You love taking baths and we are in the process of getting you on a routine, especially before bed, to make your sleeping pattern better.
You are sleeping through the night very well, usually only waking up once or twice, depending on what time we put you down. You are so well rested and bright eyed in the morning, it's my favorite time of day with you. We have started doing tummy time with you in the morning, you're not a huge fan right now, but you're learning.
I told Daddy to put his face by yours so you could look at it and he took me literally. And then Roscoe started licking his head.
Just recently you have began LOVING your snug-a-bunny swing and love staring at yourself in the mirror at the top. Anytime you are fussy we just plop you in there are you calm right down.
You sort of started sucking your thumb and recently found out that you like pacifiers, but only certain kinds. You also rolled over onto your side on your own a couple times; both times it was your left side, maybe that means you're left handed like your mama??
I read you The Very Hungry Caterpillar the other day before a nap and you were awake the whole time I was reading it, only falling asleep after I closed the book.  Perhaps, like your daddy, this is your favorite book.
Sadly you have developed baby acne this past week but we still think you are beautiful. You have also started producing tears when you cry which is the SADDEST sight in the world! You are grabbing at hair, necklaces and clothing now and have a pretty tight grip. You love laying on your changing table and staring at your Sassy Bugs and the chandelier in your room.
Daddy went back to work yesterday and I think he was pretty sad about it. I was pretty sad too because he has a special touch with you that he can calm you down in one second no matter what the issue is (seriously, last night I spent 35min trying to get you to sleep and your dad came in to give me a break and it took him 8 minutes...EIGHT!).  It's very helpful when you and I are both at our wit's end (it's also slightly annoying that he can swoop in and save the day in a matter of minutes!).
I think you have hit your 3-4 week growth spurt because you are such a little piglet today. At this time yesterday you had finished 9oz of breastmilk but today you have eaten 17oz!  We have all kinds of nicknames for you but daddy's favorite for you is "pretty girl" and mine is "baby doll." You are no longer a newborn and are looking more like a baby every day.
We are over the moon with you and can't wait to see what kinds of new, fun things you do this next month.
Love,
Mommy
