Ultrasound Results

The ultrasound that we had last week (where we found out we are having a GIRL!!!) was scheduled as part one of the tests to rule out abnormalities.  We had an OBGYN appointment on Friday to go over the results from the ultrasound so we were a tad nervous but hoping for the best.  Our doctor told us that everything looks great, that all of the baby's organs are developing as they should and her feet look to have developed right and there is no sign of a clubbed foot.  The baby was face down, though, so they weren't able to see her face so they couldn't rule out a cleft lip so they want me to do another ultrasound next month (yay! more baby time for me!). She said my uterus is measuring great so I shouldn't be at risk for preterm labor and that the placenta is on the back of the womb so I "will feel everything" according to the doctor. I haven't felt anything yet, no kicking for her, she must be such a lady.

The second part of the abnormalities test was a blood test, which they took on Friday.  We will find out the results of this test at our next appointment.

My parents were in town this weekend so we did a lot of shopping for maternity clothes.  There aren't a lot of options, but I bought a lot of good pieces.  In other news, a huge bump appeared on Saturday afternoon and it hasn't gone away...I officially feel pregnant now :)

Next appt:  May 23rd - 3:30pm Ultrasound, 4pm OBGYN

Here's a picture of our sonogram from this 17 week appointment. We had four but this is the only one where you could actually make anything out.

This is from yesterday showing my *new* baby bump. I was a little unprepared for the picture. And eating...imagine that.

3rd Month Dr. Appt

We had our third month doctor's appointment on Friday.  The doctor told us if she could find a heartbeat at week 13 my chance of a miscarriage dropped to 0%...bring on the heartbeat.  It took her about 30 seconds to find the heartbeat (longest 30 seconds of my life) but it was there and we got to listen to it for awhile, which was nice.

I told her I was getting really bad headaches and that I felt guilty for taking Tylenol but she said there was nothing to feel guilty about and she confirmed the headaches went away after I took the medicine. We also discussed the pain in my lower abdomen that I have been getting when i sneeze, blow my nose, get up too fast, etc. She said this was completely normal, called round ligaments, and it's the ligaments in my stomach stretching when I do various things.

She said in the 4th month we will do some genetic testing to make sure everything is okay with the baby.  This is a simple blood test and an ultrasound at the hospital to make sure everything looks okay. She also said if we want to find out the sex at that time we can!! She gave me the paperwork and I am going to call to make an appointment this week...hopefully on 4/27, the same day as my next OBGYN appointment.  eeeeeeeeee!!

In other news, I had to buy a Snoogle yesterday to help with my sleeping, so pretty much there are three people sleeping in our bed now and Robert has the smallest corner. But it's definitely staying because last night I had one of the best nights of sleep I have had in weeks.

Last night KU beat OSU in the final four game and is going to the championship game...it's a wonder I haven't needed to be checked for high blood pressure this past month.  Rock Chalk Baby.

First Trimester Complete!

I wonder at what point in history people started telling young women that pregnancy lasted nine months. Because that's a bold face lie.  Even before I got pregnant women who were pregnant would tell me that it was really 10 months, but I never believed them; I thought it was their overdramatic pregnancy hormones trying to make me feel sorry for them.  Well didn't that come back to bite me in the butt. So now that I am 12 weeks into this I feel a little bamboozled that I *think* I am one-third of the way done...what about those last four weeks! You're not fooling me!

Nothing much has changed in the last month...I have finally started gaining some weight (never thought I would use "finally" in that sentence and be happy about it) though; I am up 2 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight.  While I haven't gained much weight, as you can tell from the picture below, I am much thicker in the middle than I was in the beginning.  All my regular clothes still fit so I haven't had any freak outs wondering what I will wear to work.  I have had more headaches this past month, but that's about the only difference in the last few weeks.

I am still really tired but pretty much only in the evening. I haven't had any cravings yet, unless you count the fact that I am loving orange gatorade and didn't drink it before, but I don't CRAVE it.  I still can't handle scrambled eggs.  You would have to ask Robert, but I think I have been pretty good about keeping my hormones in check. Although, I did start crying in the car last weekend when we were running errands because I was so hungry and all I wanted was a tortilla and cheese. I am sure he will never let me forget that one.

My next doctor's appointment is this Friday so stay tuned...

The belly is a'comin... (and thankfully summer is too because this girl needs a tan!)

Buh Dum, Buh Dum, Buh Dum, Buh Dum

That's supposed to be a heartbeat! Say it really fast and it sounds like the baby heartbeat THAT WE HEARD TODAY! She only played it for like 5 seconds and I wanted to listen to it for an hour but whatevs.

yes this is a blob on a screen. but i love it more than any other blob I've seen so far

I am 9 weeks now and we had our first OBGYN appointment today and got to meet our doctor and I love her so that's good.  She tried to listen to the heartbeat on this mobile thing but she couldn't find the heartbeat (ahhhhhhhh!) so she sent me down the hall for a sonogram.  Besides finding the heartbeat the technician also told me that I have a long uterus (I'm a freak??) and that I have a cyst on (in?) my uterus that is full of progesterone.  She said that you want to have this because it releases a hormone that prevents miscarriage. Speaking of, my doctor told me that now my risk of a miscarriage is less than 2% so if I want "to spill the beans," go ahead.  This baby is about to become Facebook official!  The baby is only 25cm (1in) long and growing right on schedule so my due date is set for October 2nd.

We discussed all of the genetic testing that's available to us but, because of my age and no family history, she said I am extremely low risk. She said that they normally do testing at 12 weeks and 4 months and she would recommend that I only do the testing at 4 months because they can test for more then and it's a little less risky.

I was cleared for travel for our family trip to Hilton Head in June and to come to Kansas City for a baby shower in July. Unfortunately I was told that I can't travel after 34 weeks which means I can't go to the wedding of one of my best friend's little sisters. So sad about that! Apparently anytime after 28 weeks I can go into labor so she (and we!) doesn't want to risk it.

I still feel great. I honestly feel like I am not even pregnant, which is such a blessing.  I am really tired and starving everything couple of hours but other than that, all is well!
For the next four months our appointments are every month so our next one is on Friday March 30th at 3:45pm.

I will leave you with this little gem. This is from one of my baby apps and this is the creepiest baby picture I have ever seen; Robert won't even look at it.  Can't wait for Week 10 to get this off my iPad.

2 Down, 7 to go

This week I am 8 weeks pregnant. 2 months.  3 complete weeks since I first found out.  Is it just me or is time moving soooo slooooowly??? The good news is that I feel FANTASTIC. Still no morning sickness, only a little bit of nausea if I don't eat right when I start getting hungry. I haven't had any weird cravings yet and only one aversion: scrambled eggs. Not really throwing a wrench in my daily diet yet.

Frequently Asked Questions so far:
1. Are you going to find out the sex? Yes we are. I have a nursery to plan!
2. When are you going to make it Facebook official? After the first trimester
3. Have you thought of any names? Well, the only boy names I like are Milo (Robert: that's a cat from a Disney movie) and Oliver (Robert: that's stupid).  So...back to the drawing board.

Month 2: I've gained 1lb so far (but I did have ice cream for lunch so that could be the culprit).  You can't tell, but I am wearing makeup. I might need to hire hair/makeup person for the next month. Just call me the next Real Housewive of Orange County.
